Sinus Augmentation

Sinus Augmentation in Melrose MA

The upper back jaw area usually has less jawbone and space for dental implants. A sinus augmentation is performed to push the sinus membrane upwards and allow space for bone tissue growth. New bone tissue grows with bone grafting material and can take up to 4 months for development. This augmentation is not an option for patients with certain health conditions. Depending on your medical history, we may recommend an alternative teeth replacement solution.

Is bone grafting needed for every sinus augmentation procedure?Sinus Augmentation in Melrose MA

Some patients will not need bone grafting because they may have enough bone. If so, the dental implant can be inserted the same day.

Are there any risks involved?

Sinus augmentation can cause the sinus membrane to tear or puncture. If so, we stitch or patch the area. The membrane would need to heal before we attempt a second time.

After the procedure, contact us if any of the following occurs:

  • Persistent swelling or pain
  • Persistent bleeding
  • If the bone graft material moved
  • Fever
